Hybrid technology -
for self check, return and sorting

In library automation self check stations, return stations and staff working places, which can read parallel bar code labels and RFID transponders, are called hybrid systems.

Not sure what booking means in these paragraphs should it say reserving???  During the handling procedure the system first looks for an existing transponder (RFID label). If this is available and correctly converted, the communication to the ILS will be done based on the RFID information.  If a blank transponder in the medium was recognized, it can be programmed automatically based on a software feature of our LibSoft.

If no transponder is recognized, the communication to the ILS will be done based on the barcode information. For that purpose it is compellingly necessary that the bar code is attached outside on the medium to proceed with self check or media return.

If a book safety device by electromagnetic labels is in use, the input of the medium must take place related to the direction. This is due to a linear installed scanner in our system. During the return process the medium has to be placed with the bar code faced upwards. This is indicated to the user by an animation on the screen.
